Caraval Review: (Very minor spoilers)
I have to say it. After seeing all the positive posts I really thought I would like this book. But I really nearly DNF’d this book, multiple times and wish I did.
My biggest annoyance you may ask? No matter how dangerous the situation all the main character would think about is boys. She has nearly drowned, nearly frozen to death and crushed to death but no, instead of focusing on the impending doom all she can think about is a boy’s hands on her body. Even when being dragged up from the waves, all she thinks about is his muscles arms around her. It is absolutely ridiculous. Even when her sister is missing and she is fearing for her life all she has is this drooling internal dialogue. Women have a hard enough time having to deal with the stupid stereotype that we are ruled by our hormones and this character just supports that.
Not only that, the story didn’t really have any real jeopardy. The story didn’t make sense. Things were just dropped. I honestly would not recommend this book. I’m really sorry that I didn’t like it but for me it’d be a one star, maybe one and a half but no more than a two. ⭐️
Anyone else feel the same? Or did anyone enjoy the book? If so, which part did you love the most?
