Celebration - World Blood Donor Day

Updated: Jul 1, 2020

Tomorrow is the WHOs World Blood Donor Day!

To highlight the incredible need for blood donations I thought I would do a post with an fang-tastic pile of red books.

Can you spot the vampire book amongst the sea of red?

Blood donating is vital. I was able to give blood as a teenager and it was such a rewarding experience. I would give blood now but my red blood cells like being all cute and tiny so I’m not able to donate at the moment, but I still felt it was important to help somehow. So, this is how this post came to be. I’m doing what I can by spreading the word to you and this amazing community, here, on Instagram.

Give Blood NHS are still taking donations during the pandemic, people will never stop needing blood so they will never stop kindly asking for donations. They have implemented social distancing measures so there’s absolutely nothing to worry about. I imagine they have struggled to get the same influx of donations they had before the pandemic. They always aim to have a minimum of 6 days worth of stock in all blood types.

On 3rd of June, this is what they had:

O- 11 Days

A- 15 Days

B- 10 Days

AB- 6 Days

O+ 8 Days

A+ 8 Days

B+ 11 Days

AB+ 10 Days

I’m A+ and they were only two days off of their minimum.

Let’s support each other and those desperately in need. Think of your favourite literary vampires and fork over some blood!

And just to get the ‘juices flowing’ I’m going to share with you who my favourite vampires are. They are Matthew De Clairmont and Gallowglass from the All Souls trilogy.

List of books:

Bright Ruin by Vic James

The Vanishing Season by Joanna Schaffhausen

Shadow of Night by Deborah Harkness

Godblind by Anna Stephens

The Black Room Manuscripts by Sinister Horror Company

Eastwood Comics by Nottingham City of Literature
