Everless Review

Unfortunately for me, Everless, was boring. It didn’t engage me and I found it was a bit samey. I saw everything coming from a mile away. But the thing that irked me the most was the fact that the main characters emotional drives just went out like candles in a strong wind and she would just pick up a different one. Priorities changed but what the author was using to bring tension was just dropped and swapped for a different one. It was made out to be this lasting impact, the worst fear of her life and bang, oh it’s not a problem, that’s fine. People aren’t like that; fears don’t suddenly vanish it just didn’t feel believable. This just continually happened and there wasn’t much follow through. I’m saying all this knowing that some of my favourite bookstagrammers loved this book so, maybe it’s just one of those books you love or you really don’t. Also, the brothers weren’t written well at all. It was like bad actors trying to say lines. The just weren’t people. This book is coming off the back of me reading A Court of Mist and Fury which is now on my top five books of all time so, maybe it was the hangover? But I just felt like the concept of time as money is overplayed, some of the characters felt 2D and the plot was a bit iffy. The bit I did was how time as money was actualised. Usually it plays out in some transfer that isn’t tangible but they extracted time from the blood and created iron bars, that then, the rich could ingest in their tea. That was a really lovely touch.

If you haven’t come across a time as money concept before I’d say give it a shot but for me, it’s ⭐️⭐️ and I unfortunately don’t feel inclined to read the rest of the series.
