Reading YA as an Adult

Reading YA as an adult.

(So sorry! This was supposed to be out earlier in the day so I’m hoping my UK followers are still awake 🤣)Anyway, let the book chat begin!I feel like most of the readers of YA are adults! But do you ever find yourself having to give yourself a mental allowance for a YA book, knowing you’re not the demographic it’s written for?

With Red Queen, I found it a bit, meh... mainly because every tiny little thought was spelt out for us, as if we didn’t have the intellectual ability to draw conclusions ourselves and it really got on my nerves. I’m just interested to know what you guys think. Should I make a mental allowance for not being in the YA category and eventually give the sequel ago or hold it up to the same standards I would any book? It’s an interesting dilemma. Especially because I don’t have to do this for all YA I read. I recently read A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder and despite her having a seventeen year old mindset, not once did I feel I had to make allowances for the age bracket. So, yeah, comment your opinions and let’s have a chat.

I’m really curious now as to what you guys think. I hope you are all coping ok with the stress of renewed lockdowns and Election jitters.

Happy Reading!
