Vox Review

It only takes one generation to change an entire nation. Just raise one differently and after you take care of the older population who remember how it use to be your desired culture can reign unquestioned for generations. That’s it, it just takes one to have the entire thing come crashing down to be reformed into something terrifying. Set in the United States after their world is overhauled. Extremist religion is now the government and women are restricted to one hundred words a day. Vox explores this aspect of a changing society. The parents know, they remember how it use to be, their age group desire to change things back but their children... they don’t know any better and in many ways they aren’t yours anymore. They are informants living in your house. One slip up and they will report you. That’s how far the indoctrination goes. I found it interesting, the internal monologue of a character who was restricted to one hundred words a day. Unfortunately I wasn’t overly struck on the main character. I could emphasise with her anger and sheer hatred but I didn’t connect to her, things didn’t seem whole. The premise is terrifying and a intriguing play on extremism and the current tension in America under Trump’s regime but the ending just didn’t work for me I’m afraid and a few other bits and bobs of this book just felt off kilter. I enjoyed reading it to some extent and I hate to compare but it is no Handmaid’s Tale. But maybe that is why I’m not obsessed with it. Anything that runs with these themes will forever be in shadow. I will still encourage people to read it. It’s a topic that needs to be explored and I did as I said enjoy reading it. I just wasn’t reaching for the book with extreme passion. #bookstagram #booklover #bookworm #bookstagrammer #booknerd #reading #amreading #amreadingfantasy #bookreview #bookcommunity #bookblogging #bibliophile
