Why is it that so many books have thorn in their title?

Two posts in one day? What is this madness? The madness is I couldn’t wait to bring this up: Why is it that so many books have thorn in their title? I’ll give you a one sentence answer: Just because things may appear delicate, and pretty doesn’t mean they don’t bite.

Thorn

A court of Thorns and Roses

Girl Serpent Thorn

Sorcery of Thorns

I think a rose represents, in a way, the oppression of women and the pedestal we are forced on to to be pretty little things. But mess with us and they’ll discover we have thorns. It seems to have become a major theme in female lead fantasy. The juxtaposition empowers us. The characters we love, and indeed ourselves, are not things be to put under glass jars as decoration. Remember that! Regardless of where you sit on the gender spectrum you are all awesome and quite frankly badass. We’ve learnt to breathe fire from literacy’s finest!

Keep the stereotype destroying characters rolling writers! And keep doing what you want to do. And be who you want to be. You are not here to appeal to other or to suit them you are here to take the world by storm!
